When I first started blogging I made a lot of mistakes. One of them was writing blog posts and sharing them once on Facebook and playing the waiting game. I wasn’t getting much feedback or even views and quickly came to learn that I had a lot more work to do to get this blog moving. Blogging is not easy and you are not going to see a lot of progress if you don’t put some time into promoting your website and getting your content out there. This is why I want to write this post for YOU! It is not easy getting started but I hope that this guide of blogging tasks helps you get more organized and ahead of the game.

I have my blogging tasks separated by daily, weekly, and monthly to-do lists. Here is a breakdown of how I work with my blog. Please note that what works for me may not work for you but I sure hope this can serve you as a guide.
DAILY TASKS
CHECK YOUR EMAILS
This is something you should be doing daily. It helps keep in touch with potential clients, stay up to date on affiliate marketing, and even helps you connect with other bloggers and see what they are up to by reading their newsletter. Make sure to respond to any important emails during this time.
SCHEDULE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS
If you don’t use a platform that automatically posts your social media posts then this will be a good time to get your posts put together. I use my Purple Trail content planner to stay up to date on my social media and what posts I need to publish that day.

REPLY TO COMMENTS ON YOUR BLOG POST AND SOCIAL MEDIA
It is very important to respond to every comment on your blog and social media platforms. If you have a huge following than this may seem almost impossible but remember that the more personal you get with your audience and the more time you invest in them, the most likely they will stick around to view all of your content. One thing I dread is leaving a comment with a question and not getting a reply. Even if it’s a simple “like” on the comment and answering their questions to cut time, at least they know you have read and somehow engaged on their comment. Emojis is another way to respond. Put a heart and a smiley face or even a quick, “thank you :)” and it will go a long ways.
REVIEW ANY ROUGH DRAFTS AND FINALIZE THEM
I usually go through moments where I can write an entire blog post or two in a day while other days I just start and have no creativity so I leave it with just the intro and a rough outline of what I want to include in the topic. It is good to go in daily and review any rough drafts that you may have. If you have a few blog posts that you have completed then it is good to go in and proof read them, add any links needed, double-check your SEO, and even check your images.
PLAN AHEAD
I usually try to plan ahead every day I can. Not every day but at least more than three times a week. You never know when you have an idea that comes to mind and you want to make a plan to achieve it.
NEW CONTENT SHARES
If I have a new blog post that just went live I make sure to pin it to all of my relevant boards, share it on my Facebook page, Instagram, and even on my stories.
UPDATE MY TASKS OR TO-DO LIST IN MY CONTENT PLANNER
I am the kind of person that has to check off my to-do list or else I will most likely miss it. Having my content planner helps keep me organized on all of my tasks. Whatever I didn’t get around to doing that day I push it to the next day to get done.
LOOK FOR BRANDS YOU WANT TO COLLABORATE WITH
Let’s face it, many of our pitches go unseen or without a reply. It can be hard to get your pitch seen especially if they are receiving so many every day. One thing I have learned is to not wait around for a reply cause you may or may not get one. Always keep looking for new products to review, new trips, collect contact information for their PR reps, and even plan trips.
Note: This varies on your niche as well. I like to travel outdoors so I would look for gear to review, backpacking food to try such as Outdoor Pantry, new hikes and campgrounds, etc. Someone in the beauty niche would look for new make up items that just hit the shelf, a new make-up routine, etc. My point is that you need to continue to look for your work and pitch to brands. The more work your put in to your blog the faster the pay off will be down the road.
WEEKLY TASKS
SCHEDULE PINS
I use Tailwind to schedule my pins and absolutely love it. My Pinterest monthly views has gone up from just a few thousand to over 60 thousand. The highest I have had is 130 thousand monthly views. Rule of thumb is that your pins should be 80% from other sources (bloggers, photographers, etc.) and 20% of your own source (your own website, Instagram, Facebook, etc…).

SCHEDULE BLOG POSTS
If you haven’t done so yet, go through your rough drafts and check your content planner so you can start scheduling all of the blog posts you have still in your draft section. Double check the links in them and SEO.
SCHEDULE PINS ON PINTEREST
If you use Tailwind like me to schedule your Pinterest pins then I would highly recommend sitting down once a week to schedule them. It is good to repin these pins and get new engagement on them. Maybe even upload a new pin image to see if it helps raise engagement.
PITCH TO BRANDS
Another one of my blogging tasks is to find brands and companies that you want to work with. Take one day out of the week to send out emails to them. Pitch them a collaboration that you are interested in and follow back a few days later. I usually give them a 5 to 7 days to respond before sending a follow-up email.
BRAINSTORM IDEAS
At least once a week I like to brainstorm ideas. This can include a new project, new blog posts, a special newsletter for your subscribers, you name it. Maybe it’s a freebie packing list that you want to send out to them or you may want to even write a book or create a course. The options are endless. I usually just sit down with a notebook and jot down ideas that I can set together and the one that sticks out to me the most is the one I start working on for the following month.
PLAN AHEAD
You may have landed a few collaborations with the businesses you pitched too recently. That’s great! Congrats! But now it’s time to plan ahead. How are you going to show these products to your audience? What creative photography ideas do you have in mind for your social media posts? Start setting a deadline and a timeline to make this collaboration possible in a timely and professional manner.
Maybe it’s one of your brainstorming ideas that you want to start planning ahead. Go for it. Set a deadline and create a timeline to reach that goal. You got this!
TAKE AND EDIT PHOTOS
I try to take photos at least once or twice a week for the entire week. I am a homeschooling mom so I am very busy most days with my little ones so my weekends consist of a few hours of shooting content for the week. Being able to be consistent on posting on social media and on your blog is crucial to keeping your audience engaged so staying on task and following an organized schedule that works for you and your family is very important. Don’t forget to always leave time off every day to be with your family and for some ME time. You need to take a break too from work.
UPDATE ONE OLD BLOG POST (GOAL IS TWO TO FOUR A MONTH)
Not all blog posts rank the same so it is always important to go back and do some updates. Maybe there is a typo that needs to be fixed, or you have new images that you can add to it. SEO may need to be improved so you can rank better. Whatever the case is, it is always good to go back and update your posts. Now don’t focus on just the blog posts that are not ranking good, it is good to update the ones that are ranking good so they can continue to rank and grow. Your audience already loves the post so why not give a little extra love so it can continue to be loved.
SCHEDULE YOUR FACEBOOK POSTS
Many people use scheduling platforms for their Facebook but I usually just use the Facebook scheduler on my page and schedule them according to my analytics. I try to schedule them once a week though it feels like I always seem to skip this task. Probably cause Facebook has been so hard to get engagement on. If you have any tips on how to improve Facebook engagement please let me know. I would love to hear your tips and tricks.
EMAIL NEWSLETTER
This is another thing you can do to keep your audience engaged. You can create a weekly newsletter to email out to your subscribers on special information that you only share with your subscribers. Maybe a list of upcoming events, sales, or even a guide or tutorial. Whatever the case is, it is good to keep them engaged and get them to open your newsletter. I recently sent out a Black Friday one for all of my favorite outdoor brands so people can stock up on some goodies for their next adventure. I linked to my blog reviews for each brand as well as included affiliate links to grow sales.
MONTHLY TASKS
SET NEW GOALS FOR THE FOLLOWING MONTHS
On the first day of the month I like to sit down and compare statistics from the previous month. I write these on the front of each month’s analytics page in my content planner. It helps me know if I reached last month’s goals and set new ones for the upcoming month. By setting goals and pushing to reach them it helps your blog grow as well. I am a huge goal setter and though I don’t reach every goal I set I try my best to get close to my goal. Some growth is better than none.
GO OVER MY CONTENT PLANNER FOR THE NEXT MONTH
At least once a month I like to sit down with my content planner and just schedule content and write down reminders. I even go over the reminders that I had set to see if I have already reached any of them. I sometimes get ahead of myself while at other times tend to fall behind. Usually I do this on the last week of every month. It helps me get an idea of what is coming for the next month as well as what I need to start working on.
TAKE ONE TO THREE COURSES
I love taking courses so I can continue to learn new things in the influencer and blogging world. One of the places I know for sure I can find the best courses is SkillShare. They have a wide variety of courses available on their platform that are useful for both my shop and my blog. It has also taught me about growth on social media and Pinterest management.
Ell Duclos has some very good courses as well that has helped her grow. She has hit to over 1,000 views to her blog using Pinterest alone. Check out her courses here.
UPDATE PLUGINS ON MY WEBSITE
Plugins need to be updated all the time just like apps on your phone. I like to take one day to focus on updating various things on my website including plugins. Maintaining your website at the best performance is crucial. No one likes to sit around waiting for your website to load so keeping those plugins at their best can be very helpful. This is just one of several things that can keep your website running fast and smoothly.

I am glad you find it useful. Blogging is a very busy business and very tricky at first. Thank you for reading and taking the time to leave a sweet comment. I really appreciate it. 😊
Hi Jessica! I am just getting started in blogging. How often do you write a new blog post and do you share every blog post on Facebook? It does seem very difficult to get your FB posts even seen. Do you recommend paying for more exposure on FB?
Hi Amber, I struggle with exposure on Facebook too. I still share it on my Facebook page and personal page cause it still brings in a few views here and there but I focus on where my blog traffic is mainly coming from which for me is search engines and Pinterest. You can share your Blog Post on different Facebook groups as well but those can be time consuming as many of them require you to comment on 10+ other blog posts before posting your own link. If you have the extra time then that may be another option but I don’t personally do it. I’ve tried paying for more exposure before and it really depends on how much you want to actually pay for exposure. You get what you pay for pretty much. You can check out this post on how to grow your blog traffic with Tailwind and Pinterest >>> https://thewalkingmermaid.com/blog/how-i-grew-my-traffic-with-tailwind
I am also working on some new things for the new year such as blog courses to help others grow their blog traffic. Hope this helps. You can also email me if you would like to talk more about blogging. 😊
Thank you so much. This post is super helpful.
Hi Julia, Your welcome. Glad it was helpful to you.
This is exactly what I was looking for! As a beginning blogger it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the tasks that need to be done, especially if you’re as highly distracted as I am! (look! a squirrel!) I also need concrete, physical reminders to help me, so I use a lot of sticky notes stuck to big charts I put on the wall. Of course all our tasks will differ, partly depending on where we are in our blogging journey.
Thanks for laying all this out for us!
Aww thank you Jennifer. It warms my heart reading your comment. Yeah it is does differ from blogger to blogger but it is a general outline. Glad to hear that you just started a blog. I wish you all the best on your blogging journey.
Thank you for this post. I am glad to see there’s someone who breaks it down in groups. I have been searching and searching for info on blogging schedules and while this isn’t 100% what I had in mind, I found a fellow blogger who is very similar in what I am about. Thank you so much for everything.
Oh I’m glad to hear this. I hope it helps you out in your new blogging journey. Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog and reading this article. 🙂
