HOW PEAK SHERPA CAME TO BE
Peak Sherpa is based on dreams and creativity that was found on a trek to Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas. As they became more acquainted with Tsampa the more they felt energized throughout the day. This was the beginning of Peak Sherpa.
Tsampa is the staple gain of the Himalayan people and it is largely unavailable in North America. This grain gives you energy and keeps you full longer. It is used for many dishes in the Himalayas due to it being so plentiful in this region. I really loved this grain in my cereal and hope you enjoy their cereal too.
Sherpas are actually a tribe of people native to the Solukhumbu region of Nepal which is very well known due to it’s close proximity to Mount Everest. Sherpas are also the primary mountaineering workforce in the Himalayas because of the centuries these tribes have acclimated and adapted genetics to these extreme altitudes. You can learn more about the company Peak Sherpa here.
ABOUT PEAK SHERPA AND THEIR TRAVEL FRIENDLY FOODS
The company Peak Sherpa actually makes two different styled products both with various flavors. One of them are energy bites. These bite size energy filled balls are perfect for on the trail. They are all so delicious and easy to carry with you on the trail. The energy bites come in four different flavors which I will go more into details below.
They also make Tsampa Barley Cereal which is very delicious as well. This cereal is perfect for an easy meal. I like to eat this for breakfast with my coffee. The cereal comes in four different flavors as well. More details below.
Peak Sherpa is also Certified B Corporation which means that they are committed to social and environmental stewardship both locally and abroad. Their primary mission is to provide support to families of fallen Sherpas and to improve conditions for guides working in the Himalayas. Peak Sherpa donates about 2% of their revenue each year to nonprofits like The Juniper Fund and The American Himalayan Foundation to help meet these efforts.
PEAK SHERPA ENERGY BITES AKA TSAMPA BALLS
These energy bites are the best trail snack to take with you on the trail. My daughters love them and they are picky eaters. Their favorite flavors is the Chocolate Almond and they beg me to take some with me on all of our trips. Even on walks around the neighborhood.
Each Energy Bite comes in a peel and reseal packaging, USDA Organic Certified, has 11-13g of protein, 2-3 grams of fiber, and is made with Tsampa.
Note: The Energy Bites used to be called Energy Balls but recently had their name changed to Energy Bites. This is why some of my photos say Energy Balls instead. It is still the same delicious snack just a new name.

MY ENERGY BITE FAVORITE FLAVORS
While my daughters are obsessed with the Chocolate Almond, I would have to say that my favorite is the Almond Butter Chocolate Chip. Don’t get me wrong, the Chocolate Almond is right there with it. I’m a sucker for chocolate.
The Cranberry Pecan was very good too and I enjoy taking it on the trail with me as well. The Mango Coconut was a little too sweet for me. I liked the flavor but it’s that type of snack that you need to eat when you want something on the sweeter side.
Overall they were all very delicious and enjoy mix matching my trail snacks. One pack comes with 8 bites and this one pack is good enough for my girls and I to eat on the trail and be fine till lunch or dinner time.

HIMALAYAN STYLE TSAMPA BARLEY CEREAL
These Himalayan styled barley cereals are very easy to make making it the perfect super-food for any outdoor trip. All you have to do is add some hot water or milk and you are good to go. They are very filling though. I used about a quarter of the bag and was full. This barley cereal also gave me the energy I needed to sustain me during my hikes.
The cereal is lightweight, certified organic, non-GMO and vegan. I like to add a little bit of chia seeds, a touch of local raw honey (helps me manage my allergies), hemp seeds, and extra fruits. I love my fruits.
As for the honey, I always buy the local raw honey to the places I like to visit and start taking a spoonful each morning and night a week before heading out. The pollen used by bees to create the honey helps give your immunity that extra boost for allergens in that specific area. I suffer from bad sinus infections every tine I get bad allergies making my trips miserable so honey is my best friend while I am traveling. It’s not much of a concern during the winter months but during the Spring, Summer, and Autumn seasons it is very crucial for me. Because of this I like to add honey to my oatmeal and my cereals. Sometimes I will add it to my fruits too. I do carry some Alavert with me as well just in case but usually can go the entire trip without using it.
MY FAVORITE – CHERRY ALMOND CRANBERRY
This Himalayan super-food is made up of sprouted and roasted whole grain barley with cherries, almonds, and cranberry. It is absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the flavor in this one. By far one of my favorites. It wasn’t too sweet or too dull. It was the perfect mix.
