Açaí bowls have become very popular over the last several years. Not only are they a fruit bowl full of deliciousness but they are very healthy for you. Best of all, you can make them in many different ways and add as many or as little toppings as you’d like.
What Is An Açaí Bowl
First off, let’s talk about what açaí is. Açaí is a grape like berry that grows on açaí palmtrees in the rainforests of South Ameria. These açaí berries are filled with antioxidants, fiber, calcium, and heart healthy fats. Açaí also claims to have several health benefits. These benefits include: heart disease, cancer, weight loss, arthritis, high cholesterol, erectile dysfunction, and anti-aging. You can read more about it at, “The Good Housekeeping.”
Now that we know what açaí is we can head on over to what an açaí bowl is. This is when they take the açaí berries, take out their seeds, and put it in the blender to make a puree. I like to mix other berries like strawberries and blueberries with it to add more of a sweet flavor to the mix. Once you have the mix you put it at the bottom of the bowl. Cut up the fruits and nuts that you want and add it to the bowl. Then top off your bowl with seeds, honey, agave, bee pollen, and any other toppings that you may want to add to your bowl.
Haleiwa Bowls
I’ve had my fair share of açaí bowls. Some are just awful, tangy tasting or just not the pure sweetness I was looking for. Others seem to be way to watered down. I’ve even made some at home with Sambazon açaí which came out good but still not as good as Hale’iwa Bowls. Hale’iwa Bowls can be found in the historic town of Hale’iwa, Hawaii. These bowls are absolutely amazing and I can’t ever go to Hale’iwa without stopping here and grabbing me one of these delicious healthy treats.
Hale’iwa Bowls has extra toppings to add to your bowl. I like to try new toppings every time I go. They have all sorts of fruits, honey, seeds, etc. and they’re all very amazing. They also make smoothies and have a few other healthy treats as well on their menu. You can’t miss them. You can find them in their cute little grass shack by North Shore Trading Company and across from Matsumoto’s Shaved Ice. Don’t forget to chill behind the shack and enjoy your treat on their newly renovated patio. For more inspiration, make sure to follow them on Instagram.
